For the past nine years Debra has been evolving from a psychotherapist into a more active life in the church. She is a trained and accredited spiritual director, Regional Coordinator of CFDM southwest, an artist and the mother of a 26 year old daughter, Leela. Debra now resides in Scottsdale with her cat, Zachariah, where she serves as assistant to the rector of the Episcopal Parish of St. Barnabas on the Desert and is active in the development of their programs for The Contemplative Life.   Debra has a special place in her heart for ministering to the ministers.  She has a breadth and depth of experience in creating and implementing spiritual formation experiences for churches and religious groups, including leading single day and extended retreats and equipping lay and clergy as spiritual directors.  She is certified to teach and lead Centering Prayer workshops for Contemplative Outreach, International.

What is CFDMsouthwest about?

CFDMsouthwest  teaches ancient contemplative practices in concise contemporary format to assist you, your colleagues, staff, parishioners and friends to develop deeper levels of intimacy in relationship with self, others and God. CFDMsouthwest assists you to discern how you are being called to move forward on your journey toward meaning, value and joy.

Introductory and advanced studies in Contemplative Living, Contemplative Prayer workshops, Quiet Days, Retreats, Educational Institutes, Training and Supervision for Spiritual Directors, as well as Group and Individual Spiritual Direction are now offered in Scottsdale, Arizona as well as  the West Coast. All CFDMsouthwest programs and events are grounded in the practice of Holy Listening. In the words of Margaret Guenther, Professor of Ascetical Theology and Director of the Center for Christian Spirituality at the General Theological Seminary,

‘Holy Listening’ facilitates the process of “uncovering the obvious in our lives and in realizing that everyday events are the means by which God tries to reach us.”

CFDMSouthwest Clergy Partnering Program

‘How may I make your life easier, gentler, more expansive and effective?

Can you remember when someone offered to sit with you? to be a safe harbor for you? to dialogue and partner with you and provide the program or retreat you long to offer your staff or parishioners (but have no time to create and implement)?

As a clergy person and spiritual leader, people expect a lot of you, and chances are you probably feel stretched beyond capacity. Your desire to give far exceeds the time and resources you have available.   It is my heart’s desire to partner with you, to help you make your job easier, gentler and more expansive, to augment what you have already established in your community by providing programmatic experiences created to meet your unique needs. We can work together to transform your visions into realities. You dream and let me do the work.
